Chairman's Message (2024-2025)

It was a great honor to be elected as the Chairman of CA Division of Session 24/25.

Following the success of a 1.5-Day CA Division 23/24 Summit including a 0.5-day summit at Shunda Polytechnic on 14th & 17th of May 2024, we anticipate the 24/25 Summit would be successfully held similarly under the leadership of Ir Dr Tony LEE, CAD 24/25 Summit OC Chairman. Consistently, we have received invitations from the counterparts on Mainland for relevant learned society activities, like China Instrument and Control Society (CIS), Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology (GDSTA), Guangxi Association for Science and Technology (GXAST), Guangdong Institution of Engineers (GDIE), Guangdong Automation Association (GDAA), Guangdong Measurement Control Technology and Equipment Application Promotion Association (GDMCTEAPA), Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology (SZAST), Shenzhen Experts United Association (SZEUA), Zhuhai Association of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers (ZAMEE), Sichuan Association for Science and Technology (SCKX), etc. At the stage, we are planning to have delegations to entertain the required collaborations wishing that our related technical know-how could be updated and our connections with the relevant parties, professionals and academics could be enhanced as well. For the CAD Annual Dinner, it is of great pleasure to disclose that Ir Billy CHOW has accepted to take up the OC Chairmanship. As far as the ‘Paper Award’ is concerned, Ir Prof Eddie LOCK and Dr Lisa SHAM are going to be the Co-chairmen of the event, aiming for papers from the industry and the tertiary institutions on Mainland respectively. For the regular seminars at the HKIE, Ir Louis YIU & Ms Crystal CHAN are going to be our Seminars/Events Taskforce Chairman and Co-Chairlady. As discussed with the CAD Committee Members via WhatsApp Group on 5th July 2024, it is believed that the 24/25 Session would be busy as there are more delegations to be addressed and the directive from Ir Prof Eric MA, the President, i.e. ‘Strengthen the connection with Mainland and Overseas Professional Engineering Bodies’ will be endeavourously followed. Besides, the Division will work closely with the CAI Discipline Advisory Panel for synergy outcomes.

Last but not the least, I have to utilize the golden opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the CAD Committee Members including the Observer/Convenors, hoping the said activities/issues could be achieved with quality in order that we could better serve our members, profession and society at large.

Ir Prof Louis LOCK
Chairman, Control, Automation & Instrumentation Division of HKIE
