Chairman's Message
As we begin a new session for the Control, Automation, and Instrumentation Division (CAD) of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), I want to express my gratitude for your ongoing support. Our division thrives on your active involvement, and together, we can navigate the exciting challenges ahead. This year, we will focus on five key themes: autonomous vehicles, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), the low-altitude economy, and sustainability. These areas are transforming industries and providing unique opportunities for impactful work.
Autonomous vehicles promise to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in urban mobility. Our contributions to developing control systems and instrumentation are vital, ensuring these vehicles reduce carbon footprints and improve air quality. Robotics is revolutionizing sectors from manufacturing to healthcare, enhancing productivity while addressing labour shortages. We have a crucial role in advancing robotic technologies, prioritizing safety and sustainability. Artificial intelligence complements robotics and autonomous systems, enabling smarter technologies that improve decision-making and efficiency. Our challenge is to utilize AI ethically and responsibly, ensuring transparency and accountability. The low-altitude economy, driven by drone technology, is poised to transform logistics and emergency response, creating new economic opportunities. We must implement these technologies responsibly, minimizing environmental impacts.
To achieve these ambitious goals, I am committed to strengthening our connections with key partners like the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Institute of Measurement and Control (InstMC), and the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE). Collaborating with these organizations will enhance knowledge sharing and best practices.
I encourage all members to participate actively in our events and initiatives. Your involvement is crucial for personal growth and for fostering a vibrant community. In conclusion, the future is bright for our division, driven by advancements in autonomous vehicles, robotics, AI, the low-altitude economy, and our commitment to sustainability. Let us seize these opportunities together and make a meaningful impact.
Thank you for your unwavering support.
