Chairman's Message (2023-2024)

It was a great honor to be elected as the Chairman of CA Division of Session 23/24.

Following the success of the CA Division 22/23 Summit including a 1/2-day technical visit to Schneider Electric Innovation Hub & Legislative Council Complex on 2nd & 3rd of May 2023, we anticipate the 23/24 Summit would be successfully held similarly under the leadership of Ir Dr Tony LEE, CAD 23/24 Summit OC Chairman. Consistently, we have received invitations from the counterparts on Mainland for collaboration of learned society activities, like Guangdong Mechanical Engineering Society (GDMES), Guangdong Automation Association (GDAA), Guangdong Measurement Control Technology and Equipment Application Promotion Association (GDMCTEAPA), Shenzhen Engineers Association (SZEA), Guizhou Province Association for Science and Technology (GZSTA), etc. At the stage, we are planning to have delegations to entertain the required collaborations hoping that our related technical know-how could be updated and our connections with the relevant counterparts, professionals and academics could be enhanced as well. For the CAD Annual Dinner, we are pleased that Ir Ray CHOI has accepted to be the OC Chairman. As far as the ‘Paper Award’ is concerned, Ir Dr SL MAK is going to head the event as usual; in addition, he is going to follow up the issues of cooperation with GDMES & GDAA. For the regular seminars at the HKIE, Ir Louis YIU is going to be our Seminar Convenor as in the past sessions. As disclosed in the CAD Committee Meeting on 7th July 2023, it is believed that the 23/24 Session would be busy as there are more delegations to be addressed and the directive from Ir Dr Barry LEE, the President, for the ‘Innovative Competition’ has to be followed prudently. Besides, the Division will work closely with the CAI Discipline Advisory Panel for synergy outcome.

Last but not the least, I have to utilize the golden opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the CAD Committee Members including the Observer/Convenors, hoping that the said activities/issues could be achieved with quality in order that we could better serve our members, profession and society at large.

Ir Prof Louis LOCK
