Programme Highlights

The speakers will introduce major techniques in artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, and briefly introduce recent research projects and discuss potential AI applications in Engineering as well as in Education. The speakers will also give a short introduction to a newly launched Master of Science in AI and Educational Technology MSc(AI&EdTech) Programme at the Education University of Hong Kong.

Speakers

Professor Philip L. H. Yu is a Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology of The Education University of Hong Kong. He was the Chairperson of the Asian Region Section of the International Association of Statistical Computing, the Vice President of the Hong Kong Statistical Society, and a member of the Technical Committee of Computational Finance and Economics, IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.  He is an Associate Editor of Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence, Digital Finance, and Computational Statistics. His research interests are broad; they include AI and big data analytics, non-parametric inference, ranking methods, time series analysis, financial data analysis, risk management and statistical trading. He has many years of rich experience in various contract research/consulting projects for business, industry and public bodies including banks and insurance company, stock exchanges, hospital authority, etc.

 

Dr. Yanjie Song is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), and the Programme Leader of the MSc(AI&EdTech). She obtained her MEd. at University of Leeds, the UK. and Ph.D. at the University of Hong Kong in Educational Technology. Her research interests are: innovative pedagogical design and practices, app development and implementation, AI and learning analytics, etc. The augmented reality app –VocabGo for vocabulary learning developed by her team won Gold Medal in the International Innovation and Invention Competition (IIIC) Taiwan 2020”, and the m-Orchestrate app for mobile collaborative science inquiry won “Silver Medal and Special Award in The International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada (iCAN) 2020. She won a few best paper awards in different international conferences and obtained Dean’s Research Output prize twice.
