Programme Highlights:
Achieving sustainable and user
friendly environment, greening and landscaping provision, river regeneration,
or the providing of a pleasant cityscape for general public, are some basic
context or facilities for modern cities to be provided by concerning governing
authorities nowadays.
In the past few decades,
cities in particular for those relatively less-developed one in Asian countries
including Hong Kong, were not performing
satisfactorily in achieving these targets. However, as the uplifting of general
living standard and the getting better-off economically in many nearby regions
especially after the millennium, situation is getting much improved.
Being
engaged in China
development studies for more than 20 years, the speaker wishes to share his
experience and summarize some observations of his own focusing on this issue.
Case illustration based on Beijing,
Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and
some other second-line cities of China will be used in this seminar
presentation for discussion.
Language
Cantonese will be the medium
of language, to be supplemented with English when needed.
