Introduction of the Webinar:

Smart grid solutions are considered as a set of automation and telecommunication equipment connected to an intelligent master system, with an aim to providing higher energy efficiency, optimized grid control and data processing. If applied in power distribution network, it would include a wide set of smart applications for efficient operation, analysis, fault management, planning and optimization of grid operation. Together with field automation, substation automation, feeder automation, remote terminal units and communication links, they constitute distribution automation management systems to provide higher efficiency and reduce cost of grid operation. In this presentation, benefits and costs of a distribution automation management system is investigated and evaluated, with special attention on impact of distributed energy resources (DERMS). The performance analysis is conducted considering the lifetime of the system, to manifest the profitability of the solution.

Biography of Speaker:

Dr Nenad Katic graduated in 1982 on the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, Department for Power Electrical Engineering. He defended his Master Thesis on Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade in 1991, and his Doctor Thesis on the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad in 2002, both in area of Power Electrical Engineering.

In the first 20 years of employment, he was engaged in the Power Distribution Company “Elektrovojvodina”, which supplies power to the northern area of Serbia with 2 million people. He was leading the distribution network planning department with customer connections and he was engaged in implementation of advanced technologies for automation and distribution network control. Since 2006 he is engaged in the University of Novi Sad, elected as Associated Professor since 2013, teaching open electricity market, power economics and smart grid technologies. Additionally, since 2008, he is engaged in Schneider Electric DMS company from Novi Sad in development and implementation of Smart Grid systems.

Nenad published over 100 articles and works on international conferences, journals and magazines and several books, all in area of power grid operation improvements, implementation of smart grid technologies and economic analysis of grid operation. He was chairman of Serbian CIRED committee in 1997-2005.
