Technical Webinar: Building the Future Smart Façade & Retrofitting Solutions for Safety, Efficiency, and ESG

Date, time & venue

2025-12-09;6:30pm-8:00pm;Chun Wo & Hsin Chong Room - 10/F and via Zoom (online)

Organised by HKIE-CA Division

Programme Highlights

This Technical Webinar showcases UEner's nano-tech solution for green building retrofits. Discover their patented, transparent window coating. Using CWO/ATO nanoparticles, it blocks solar heat to cut cooling costs while maintaining natural light. A key benefit is its self-cleaning function, which uses rainwater to wash away dirt, reducing maintenance needs and preserving clarity. UEner integrates this core technology with AI-driven HVAC optimization and drone scanning for a complete energy efficiency package. As an award-winning firm with international patents, they present a proven strategy for achieving sustainability in existing buildings, offering a smart approach to lower operational costs and carbon footprints.

Speaker

Ir Rocky Lau is a seasoned industry expert with over 20 years of experience in ESG, green building initiatives, and smart façade technologies. Specializing in energy efficiency and AI-driven solutions, he has successfully planned and executed numerous sustainable projects, earning recognition such as the Cyberport Incubation Programme award. Tonight, Rocky will address building safety and material innovations, focusing on safety, self-cleaning and energy-saving solutions. He will outline key industry challenges and introduce groundbreaking presentations by Ir Dr Ken and Ir Prof. Vivien.

Ir Dr. Ken Chan is an electrical engineer with over 20 years of international experience in the power utility sectors of Hong Kong and Australia, specializing in AI-driven condition monitoring for buildings and energy management. His expertise spans electrical systems, building energy performance, microscopic façade analysis, operational safety, and ESG enhancements through applications of advanced technologies. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Science from the University of Hong Kong, plus a PhD from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

As a passionate advocate for engineering innovation, Ir Dr. Chan has been honored with the Young Engineer of the Year Award (2015) and the Merit of Innovation Award (2009) from The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), along with support from the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) for developing AI powered solutions.

Ir Prof. Lu Lin Vivien, a distinguished expert in HVAC&R engineering, holds a Ph.D. in renewable energy. Transitioning from Parsons Brinckerhoff (Asia) Ltd to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2006, she rose to full Professorship in July 2018. Top 2% Scientist by Stanford University in Energy, Ir Prof. Lu is a well established researcher in renewable energy and building energy engineering. Recognized by Clarivate Analytics and Stanford University, her work has garnered substantial funding from various organizations. Prof. Vivien actively contributes to academia and industry, holding key roles in professional bodies and editorial boards of esteemed journals worldwide. Ir Prof. Lu Lin Vivien research team has won numerous awards, including 2019 Ministry of Education Higher Education Institutions Scientific Research Outstanding Achievements Award (Science and Technology) Science and Technology Progress Award Second Prize; 2024 49th Geneva, Switzerland Invention Gold Award; Gold Medal at the 4th Asian Innovation and Invention Exhibition in 2024 and Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) in 2024.
